Sell gorgeous pair of sea lion bookends, art deco. Signed frécourt in hollow on both animals. The pedestals are made of green marble from the Alps, the sea lions are regularly patinated bronze. Maurice frécourt began practising in 1890, a date that is often mistakenly given as that of his birth.

His youth and enthusiasm allowed him to make a name for himself in the bronze arts of the good old era. But it was from the salon of 1920 that he acquired fame and prestige, happily translating the hieratic imperatives of the art deco style into his vision of the animal world.
