Moreau represents two small mice gnawing on a ball, probably made of orange bakelite. The bases are made of marble.After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he exhibited from 1863 to 1914 at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he sent decorative subjects often inspired by the 18th century. He won a medal at the 1878 Universal Exhibition and another at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. Among his famous sculptures is his 1880 statue of the French mathematician Alexis Clairaut, which is now part of one of the facades of the City of Paris. He died in 1927 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France and today most of his works are in the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon. Base in very good condition.
